How to Fit your Lead

and choose the right Length for your Needs.

Proper fit for comfort and safety is really important. In this video, we explore proper fitting of your Willow and Porter Lead, including the correct position of your tri-glide.

We also explore our three different lead lengths, so that you can pick the right lead for your personal needs. In this video, Théo is using the 1.5m Ambassador Lead, the 3m Ambassador Lead, and the 1.7m Guardian Lead.

Which Lead is Right for your Dog? A Guide.

8mm. ‘The Companion’.

The One that started it all.

Our original lead, introduced as the ‘1608’ lead, designed with Spaniels in mind.

Super soft and thin - designed to help our clients with overstimulated, nervous and anxious spaniels with a habit for pulling like a freight train.

We recommend this lead for dogs up to 15kg, based on the proportional thickness of the rope relative to the size of the skull. Ideal for:

  • All Toy Breeds

  • Australian Labradoodles

  • Beagles

  • Cavapoo’s and Cockapoo’s

  • Cocker Spaniels

  • Miniature Dachshunds

  • Miniature Schnauzers

  • Miniature and Toy Poodles

  • Small Terriers (Westies, Cairns, Borders, Norfolk and Norwich, JRT’s, etc)

  • Tibetans

  • Whippets

12mm. ‘The Ambassador’

The Behaviourists essential.

Our most popular lead, 50% thicker and when it was originally introduced as the ‘1922’ our first lead to introduce 100% cotton rope.

Our Medium weight lead, designed for dogs between 10kg and 35kg, with a greater level of strength and cushioning for comfort and security. Ideal for:

  • Airedale Terriers

  • Australian Shepherds

  • Basset Hounds

  • Border Collies

  • Belgian Malinois

  • Carpathian Shepherds

  • German Shepherds (Small)

  • Golden Retrievers

  • Labrador Retrievers (Working Line)

  • Poodles (Standard)

  • Setters

  • Springer Spaniels (and large Cockers)

  • Viszlas

  • Wheaten Terriers

16mm. ‘The Guardian’

The ultimate slip lead.

Our flagship lead, at a substantial 16mm, designed for the lady with three Leonbergers. Everything about our Guardian Lead was redesigned and reproportioned, so that even the biggest dogs can be walked safely and comfortably.

Our thickest weight lead, designed as a slip lead for dogs over 15kg, and a figure 8 lead for dogs over 30kg. Ideal for:

  • Any medium+ sized dog as a slip lead

  • Bulldogs

  • Bernese Mountain Dogs

  • Dobermans

  • German Shepherds (really big ones)

  • German Pointers

  • Golden Retrievers

  • Labrador retrievers (Show Line)

  • Weimeraners

Choosing the Right Lead Length.

1.5m Heeling Lead.

Available in 8mm and 12mm thicknesses.

Ou shortest Leads are designed specifically for your dog to remain under close control at heel, with little excess length.

Expect the lead to hang directly and vertically from you hand to your dog when they are at your side. Designed for heelwork training, close control in urban areas, and walking a pack of multiple dogs by your side.

1.7m Slip Lead.

Available in 16mm thicknesses.

The Guardian Lead in 1.7m is designed as a traditional slip lead, for a more loose and relaxed fit by those with immaculately trained gun dogs.

Also suitable as a heeling lead for the largest dogs with the biggest heads - for close control in busy areas.

3m Behaviourists Lead.

Available in 8mm and 12mm thicknesses.

Ou Behaviourists Lead is designed as a training lead with more length, for those handling one dog at a time and focusing on developing skills like lead sensitivity, impulse control, our ‘over under’ handling technique. The length gives much greater flexibility both as far as handling style, and for your dog to relax and get their nose to the ground.

3.7m Behaviourists Lead.

Available in 16mm thicknesses.

For those horse people amongst us, It’s like a lunge line but for your dog. Extra length to ensure suitability for even the biggest dogs. Want to know how to use it? Check out our Members page for our online training videos.
